Childhood • People who knew him as a kid claimed he was disturbed • His parents were constantly fighting • He consistently wet his bed • His mother would humiliate him in front of is family when this occurred • He admitted to having conflicting feelings of sexual attraction and anger towards his mother • Stabbed a young boy when he was in high school • Went to Vietnam as part as the Navy after he finished high school

  3. Adult Life • Gary had an everyday job of painting trucks • He was married three different times • People he worked with said he talked about prostitutes often • Later claimed that his second divorce had an effect on him that made him start killing

  4. Victims • Gary appeared to have something against women and prostitutes • All victims were women and most, but not all, were prostitutes • Almost all victims were scattered in or around the Green River in Seattle • All victims were stangled • The women were raped, some of them after they were killed

  5. Media • There were no suspects for more that 20 years • Due to this, the killer became known as the Green River Killer • The killings were displayed through many news papers and it became clear this was a serial killer because of the similarities in the murders

  6. Ridgway Becomes a Suspect • For more than 20 years no suspects could be found • Gary became a suspect when a women escaped his murder attempt • As technology got better, a DNA sample from Gary matched evidence found on a victim • Gary was arrested and charged with the murder of four women

  7. Ridgway Convicted • After Ridgway was convicted for the murder of the four women, he admitted to 48 confirmed murders • He claimed there could have been as many as 60-70 murders • He has committed more confirmed murders that anybody in U.S. history • Admitted that he has killed girls as young as their early teens

  8. Trends of a Serial Killer • Gary killed all of his women by strangling that • All of the bodies were found in or near the Green River • All of the women had been raped or violated in some type of way • All victims were women • Majority of the women were prostitutes

  9. First Green River Killing • These are the first two bodies discovered in the river • Discovered by a man who was fishing and saw Ridgway and another man on the riverbank
