  3. What is beginning dance? • This course explores movement as a creative art form. Students learn basic choreographic principles, structures, and processes. Movement skills and performance values are studied. A movement portfolio is begun. Students analyze dance and explore connections in history, to other arts disciplines, and to health. Students will begin to self assess their dance based on established criteria.

  4. Participation Is Essential • Participation in class means that you are a part of a community of learners and are expected to engage actively in all assignments, including all class discussions, moving exercises, and choreography assignments. Participation in all in school performances and out-of- school performances is required. Please follow the Performance Policy guidelines.

  5. Performance Policy • Any student that misses a performance without a written and accepted excuse will receive a maximum grade of a 70 for that grading period !

  10. Grading Percentage • Performance, Tests, and Projects:70/60% • Participation ,Dressing out, Class work and Homework: 30 /20 % • Midterm ; 20%

  11. Absences • . You are only allowed nine (9) absences for the semester • Make-up work is required after any absence and should follow the Article Critique guidelines.

  12. Choreography Notation • All choreography assignments shall be notated in any way that works for you and is decipherable and clear for the reader. You may write out the counts and describe the movements, draw floor patterns, etc.

  13. Reflection • Every project will conclude with turning in a reflection paper. This paper is to be completed and turned in two days after the final showing of the project.

  14. Honors Dance • Date is TBA • You are required to be in the audience if you are not chosen to perform.

  15. Class room rules • No shoes on the dance floor • No eating or drinking ( water is allowed in corner) • Respect others and yourself • No talking during instruction • No technology should be out unless permission is given ( do not have it on your person while moving) • Do not sit down unless instructed

  16. General Run of Class • Take off shoes at the door • First five minutes to change into your dance clothes and copy notes from the board • Warm up • Across the floor • Creative time/ Class work • Last five minutes of class to dress out
