Give two examples. • This gives the Supreme Court and other federal courts authority to hear certain cases, those involving the Constitution, national laws, treaties, and state conflicts. Ex: federal cases involving terrorism Ex: federal cases involving individual freedoms

  19. The Judicial Branch • What “check,” or control, does the Supreme Court have on Congress? Explain. • Judicial review gives the Supreme Court the power to declare acts of Congress unconstitutional.

  20. The Judicial Branch • How does the Constitution define treason? What must happen before a person is convicted of treason? a. Treason is starting a war against the US or giving aid to its enemies. The testimony of two witnesses or the accused person’s confession is required for conviction.

  21. Article 4 Problem: A major U.S. city is the scene of domestic violence, and many people in the state are in danger. Solution: The Constitution guarantees each state protection against domestic violence; the president can order forces to maintain order (National Guard)
