  1. GLOBUS TOOLKIT

  2. History of Globus • The first version, Globus v1.0, ran on about 10 different operating systems, from Windows to Cray, and maintenance was a nightmare. • A few years later, the second evolution of Globus Toolkit (GT2) arrived. While several APIs and interfaces looked the same, the internals were to a large extent rewritten. • The evolution GT4, what is the difference in security.

  3. Globus Case Study - SCEC • Actual simulation code may be stored in repositories under the control of the author, while the computers being used to execute these codes may be located within a national facility • Grid infrastructure furnishes the fundamental services needed to locate, access, and manage shared resource • Much like TCP/IP and DNS provide the basic services on which can be built higher-level capabilities, such as the World Wide Web, Globus services are designed to provide the low-level mechanisms on which higher level, domain specific services are constructed.

  4. Algorithm Optimization in Grid

  5. Summary about Grid Computing • Grid is not the Holy Grail of implementing algorithms • Grid computing is relatively cheap since the ability to support computation across administrative domains sets
