  2. Mississippi Department of Corrections Restitution Program • MDOC Restitution Center Programs provide an alternative to incarceration for minimal risk offenders who are in need of a more structured environment.

  3. Restitution Requirements • Revocation of Probation by a judge • Sentenced out of inmate status prior to completion of their sentence • Sentenced directly by a judge

  4. Restitution • Offenders are encouraged to take responsibility for their actions • Staff encourages this by requiring job attendance, payment of restitution and any other financial responsibilities.

  5. Programs Available • Various programs are tailored to meet the needs of individuals in the Restitution Program • Adult Basic Education (ABE) • General Equivalency Degree (GED)

  6. Programs Available • Alcohol and Drug Counseling • Mental Health Services • Religious Services • Point system for good behavior and community service

  7. Restitution • Restitution participants are referred to as “Residents” • Residents who qualify for the restitution program are required to work and pay full or partial payments to crime victims. • Residents pay Room and Board each month at a rate of ten dollars ($10.00) per day. • Residents are required to perform a minimum of forty (40) hours community service.

  8. Restitution • All candidates are screened for acceptance to the program prior to sentencing.

  9. Eligibility Requirements • Residents must be a first time offender • Resident must be in good mental and physical health • Resident must be employable • Resident must have a sincere desire to participate in the Restitution program

  10. Disqualifiers for Program • Convicted of a violent crime • Convicted sex offender • Offenders who have drug, alcohol, or emotional problems that would interfere with program participation

  11. MDOC Restitution • There are currently four (4) centers in the state of Mississippi • Hinds County (Jackson) • Jackson County (Pascagoula) • Leflore County (Greenwood) • Rankin County (Flowood) • Flowood is the only female Restitution facility in the state

  12. Restitution Center Disbursements • Average Monthly Restitution Population • 250 (includes all four (4) centers) • Number Hours Community Service Work • 16,278 (monthly) • Number Hours of Paid Employment • 499,236 (monthly)

Restitution Center Disbursements Information provided below is based on Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 Restitution Paid, Fines & Court Costs $ 1,301,814.68 Family Support $ 8,691.00 Holding Accounts $ 229,683.34 Personal Allowances $ 191,918.00 Room & Board $ 736,233.75 Total Disbursements $ 2,468,340.77 Medical Bills paid by Residents $76,175.53
