Recommendations • a Land Development emphasis in CE • development of a UG program within IDE or MDE • participation in a university level GI*Science initiative • a collaborative program, possibly administered through a new inter-college Division, like DEEE • The new program should have both under & grad

  4. Geospatial Sci. & Eng. Task Force • Formed by Randy Woodson, Jan. 20, 2010 • Group: 11 faculty from campus • Motivation: • DP as a successful model for inter-discip. research • lack of model for inter-discip. educational program • Use Geospatial Science & Eng. as a test case

Charges to the Task Force • Recommend an academic structure for preparation of undergraduate students for careers and graduate study in fields related to geospatial information science and engineering • Recommend an academic structure for preparation of graduate students for careers and research in fields related to geospatial information science and engineering • Identify key issues that will need to be addressed, including academic models for faculty affiliation, administrative structure, development and oversight of undergraduate and graduate curricula, policies related to admission of graduate students, and financial models for teaching, advising, administration, and staffing • Timeline: • Preliminary report due by April 1 • Final report due by May 1

  7. Current activities (since 2weeks) • Get orientated • Course/resource inventory • Understand models of DEEE, ESE and PULSe (Purdue University Interdisciplinary Life Science Ph.D. program) • Solicit: comments, suggestions
