  1. Jude Contending For The Faith

  2. Jude • Two Objectives: • To understand that God is ready to judge false teachers • To recognise some of the characteristics of the false teachers described by Jude.

  3. Jude • To understand that God is ready to judge false teachers • To recognise some of the characteristics of the false teachers described by Jude.

  4. Jude Jude v 5-7 Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling – these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

  5. Jude Jude v 14-15 Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: ‘See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.’

  6. Jude • To understand that God is ready to judge false teachers • To recognise some of the characteristics of the false teachers described by Jude.

  11. Rejecting Authority and Wanting First Place Jude v 11 Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.

  12. Rejecting Authority and Wanting First Place Mark 9 v 33-35 They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, ‘What were you arguing about on the road?’  But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest. Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, ‘Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.’

  13. Self Feeding Shepherds Jude 1 v 12-13 These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm – shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted – twice dead. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved for ever. John 10 v 11-13 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

  14. Full of False Promises Jude 1 v 12-13 These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm – shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted – twice dead. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved for ever.

They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted – twice dead. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved for ever.

  17. Lacking In The Fruit of God’s Spirit Jude 1 v 12-13 These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm – shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted – twice dead. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved for ever.

  18. Leaving Behind Destruction Jude 1 v 12-13 These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm – shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted – twice dead. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved for ever.

  19. Call Attention To Themselves But They Do Not Help Jude 1 v 12-13 These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm – shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted – twice dead. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved for ever.

  20. Grumblers and Fault Finders Jude 1 v 16 These people are grumblers and fault-finders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.

  21. Grumblers and Fault Finders Jude 1 v 16 These people are grumblers and fault-finders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage. Matthew 16 v 24-25 Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.

  22. Boast About Themselves and Flatter Others Jude 1 v 16 These people are grumblers and fault-finders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.

  23. They Divide The Church Jude 1 v 18-19 They said to you, ‘In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.’ These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.
