A Grid-Connected Dual Voltage Source Inverter With Power Quality Improvement Features

This paper presents a dual voltage source inverter (DVSI) scheme to enhance the power quality and reliability of the micro grid system. The proposed scheme is comprised of two inverters, which enables the micro grid to exchange power generated by the distributed energy resources (DERs) and also to compensate the local unbalanced and nonlinear load. The control algorithms are developed based on instantaneous symmetrical component theory (ISCT) to operate DVSI in grid sharing and grid injecting modes. The proposed scheme has increased reliability, lower bandwidth requirement of the main inverter, lower cost due to reduction in filter size, and better utilization of micro grid power while using reduced dc-link voltage rating for the main inverter. These features make the DVSI scheme a promising option for micro grid supplying sensitive loads. The topology and control algorithm are validated through extensive simulation and experimental results.

Different Strategies for Power Quality Improvement in Off-Grid Renewable Energy Based Power System

The increasing trend in integrating intermittent renewable energy sources into off-grid power system presents major challenges from the viewpoints of reliable operation and control. In this paper, the major problems and challenges in off-grid power system control are discussed, and a review of control strategies and trends is presented. A general overview of the main control is also included. The paper classifies power quality improvement strategies into three levels: primary, secondary, and tertiary, where primary and secondary levels are associated with the operation of the off-grid power system itself, and tertiary level pertains to the coordinated operation of the power system. Each control level is discussed in detail in view of the relevant existing technical literature. Control and operation of a DC Grid-Based Wind Power Generation System in Micro Grid

This article presents a Microgrid consisting of different wind power stations are connected to the distribution gird. The proposed microgrid allows flexible operation of multiple parallel connected wind generators by eliminating the need for voltage and frequency synchronization. The control design for distributed generation inverters employs new model predictive control algorithm, which enables faster computational time for large power systems by optimizing the steady state and transient control problems separately. The integration of renewable sources can supplement in their generation and might compromise the reliability and stability of distribution network. As a result, energy storage devices such as batteries and ultra capacitors are required to compensate for the variability in the renewable sources. The incorporation of energy storage devices is also critical for managing peak demands and variation in load demand. In this project, micro gird consisting of multiple parallel connected wind generators and lithium ion batteries are proposed. The proposed controller for distributed generation inverter is based on newly developed model predictive control algorithm, which decomposes the control problem into steady state and transient sub problems in order to reduce the overall computation time.
