  2. The Cat in the Hat • The Cat in the Hat is a children’s book by Dr. Seuss and perhaps the most famous, featuring a tall cat, wearing a tall, red and white-striped hat and a red bow tie. It has also been turned into a cartoon series and a major motion picture.

  3. Summary of Story: • Conrad and Sally Walden are home alone with their pet fish. It is raining outside, and there is nothing to do. Until The Cat in the Hat walks in front door. He introduces them to their imagination, and at first it's all fun and games, until things get out of hand, and The Cat must go, go, go, before their parents get back.

  4. Characters: Sally Waldon and Conrad Waldon Fish Cat Conrad is infinitely good-natured and game to try almost anything . Sally is Nick’s sister. The Fish generally knows the answer to the kids’ questions or problems but the Cat always interrupts him before he can get a word out The Cat is smart, impish, funny, playful, suave and, often as not, lovably goofy. Fond of playing dress-up and doing arts and crafts, Sally loves animals and animals love her.

  5. Story line The sun did not shine. It was too wet to play.So we sat in the houseOn that cold, cold, wet day. I sat there with Sally. We sat there, we two.And I said, "How I wishWe had something to do!" And thenSomething went BUMP!How that bump made us jump!

  6. "I know some good games we could play,"Said the cat."I know some new tricks,"Said the Cat in the Hat. We looked! Then we saw him step in on the mat!We looked! And we saw him!The Cat in the Hat!And he said to us,"Why do you sit there like that?" My tricks are not bad,"Said the Cat in the Hat."Why, we can haveLots of good fun, if you wish,With a game that I callUP-UP-UP with a fish!"

  7. It is fun to have funBut you have to know how.I can hold up the cupAnd the milk and the cake!I can hold up these books! And the fish on a rake! "Put me down!" said the fish."This is no fun at all!Put me down!" said the fish."I do NOT wish to fall!" And Sally and I,We saw ALL the things fall!“ Now look what you did!"Said the fish to the cat."Now look at this house! That is what the cat said...Then he fell on his head!He came down with a bumpFrom up there on the ball.

  8. Look at this! Look at that! You shook up our houseAnd you bent our new rake. You SHOULD NOT be hereWhen our mother is not.You get out of this house!"Said the fish in the pot. "But I like to be here.Oh, I like it a lot!"Said the Cat in the HatTo the fish in the pot."I will NOT go away.I do NOT wish to go! Then our fish said, "Look! Look!"I saw her. Your mother!Your mother is near! "

  9. "Oh dear!" said the cat."You do not like my games...Oh dear. What a shame! What a shame! What a Shame!" "That is good," said the fish."He has gone away. Yes.but your mother is coming. She will find this big mess! And THEN!Who was back in the house? Why, the cat!"Have no fear of this mess,"Said the Cat in the Hat."I always pick up all my playthingsAnd SO...I will show you anotherGood trick that I know!"

  10. Then we saw him pick upAll the things that were down.He picked up the cake, And the rake, and the gown,Then he said, "That is that."And then he was goneWith a tip of his hat. Then our mother came inAnd she said to us two,"Did you have any fun?Tell me. What did you do?" Sally and I did not knowWhat to say.Should we tell herThe things that went on there that day? Should we tell her about it?Now, what SHOULD we do?Well...What would YOU do
