  2. Backbone Update • Closing of ring 4 AEP has to move POP in Huntington WVA, AEP alleges POP will be ready on May 15 • The Broadband Ohio project is proceeding • 5 new Juniper M320 Routers • 16 Cisco 7600 (Primarily used by OIT) • Rings 1,2 and 3 will be 10 Gig capacity

  3. Backbone Update • Current Gateways are running at 61% Average; 80% median • Total utilization is peaking ~5 Gbps • Getting additional bandwidth from Level3 • Additional Bandwidth needed for full protection • Looking at re-aggregating as BGP management is becoming troublesome

  4. Backbone Update • Newnet peering connection now @ 2.2 Gbps frequently • Additional increases will require additional bandwidth • Goal - Two 10 Gig circuits to replace current gateways • Almost in reach fiscally

  5. Partners • Leveraging portals with state • Current Phase 0 implementation has State connecting to OSCnet routers but at layer 2 only, VLAN and MPLS back haul; on going • Phase 1 Project plan being completed • Role out will start this summer

  6. New Directions • Merit interconnect update - Fiber is complete circuit has been turned up. • Will start in production service after testing is complete • Anticipate becoming operational within 2 weeks • Will share port with NewNet

  7. New Directions • Pittsburgh connection gear is here • Youngstown side done • 15454 installed in Pittsburgh • PSC POP move is almost complete • Fiber move issue seems to be resolved

  8. I2 and NLR update • Pankaj Shah - GNC • Paul Schopis - AOAC and NTAC • Quilt has become 501c3. Paul elected to Executive Committee and Vice Chair
