  2. Project Objective • To improve the GoC’s preparedness and prevention capabilities against blast threats • through the development of a national Standard for the design and assessment of buildings against blast effects • The project addresses the need for Guidelines & Codes

  3. Project Overview Working Group: Critical Review & Knowledge Gap Identification CSA Technical Committee Focused Research Standard Development Training for end-users: RCMP, DFAIT, PWGSC

  4. Critical Review • A working group to • (a) conduct a comprehensive review of the existing research results, guidelines and standards, and • (b) provide recommendations on • the adequacy, feasibility, advantages and/or disadvantages of adopting these documents • a preliminary outline of the new Standard • a draft plan for the focused research

  5. Focused research • In support of Standard development • To conduct focused research such that defined knowledge gaps are filled and technical issues raised during the Standard development are resolved by analytical and/or experimental investigations • Research requirement proposed in the review report and by the technical subcommittees are being reviewed • Focused research to commence in summer of 2009

  6. Technology Transfer • Technology transfer through conferences, workshops, journals, and outreach program • National collaboration, i.e. BTTF • Training sessions for end-users (such as RCMP, PWGSC, DFAIT) planned for spring/summer of 2011

Committee history & schedule • Committee established in summer 2008 • Technical Committee (TC) & Executive meetings to date: • September 2008 (TC) • January 2009 (Chairs Teleconference) • Toronto, April 2009 (TC) • Upcoming meetings: • June 2009 (Chairs Teleconference) • Ottawa, September 2009 (TC) • Approximately 3 face-to-face committee meetings in 2010 • Public Review draft anticipated in Spring 2011
