  1. Jesus prophet of God By Robert C. Archer

  2. What Is a Prophet? • “One who speaks forth or openly, a proclaimer of a divine message. • “…one to whom and through whom God speaks” (Vine)

  3. Moses predicted • Deuteronomy 18:15 (NKJV) 15 “The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear”

  4. Many Similarities Between Jesus and Moses • Both were born while Israel was in bondage • Both of their lives were in jeopardy • Both were great deliverers • Both were given powers to work miracles

  5. Was Jesus that prophet? • In Acts 3:20-24, Peter applies it to Him • 20 “and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, • 21 “whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began. • 22 “For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. • 23 ‘And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people’”

  6. Two Kinds Of Prophets • False and true • How do you determine? • Fruit test (Matt. 7:15-20)

  7. Two Kinds Of Prophets • Teaching test - 2 John 1:9-10 • 9 Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. • 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him

  8. Two Kinds Of Prophets • Prophecy test • Deuteronomy 18:22 • 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

  9. What about Jesus’ prophesies? • They came true • Prophecy of His death • Matthew 16:21 21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

  10. What about Jesus’ prophesies? • They came true • Destruction of Jerusalem (Matt. 24:1-34)

  11. How Should We Receive This Prophet? • Not like the Jews: • They rejected Him • John 6:66 66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.

  12. How Should We Receive This Prophet? • The Jews heard but didn’t obey • Luke 6:46 46 "But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do the things which I say?

  13. How Should We Receive This Prophet? • Some of the Jews even ignored Him • John 1:11 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.

  14. How Should We Receive This Prophet? • As one who has all authority in our lives • Hebrews 1:1-3 1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

  15. How Should We Receive This Prophet? • As one who has all authority in our lives • Transfiguration (Matt. 17:1-6) • Matthew 17:5 (NKJV) 5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!"
