  1. My Work in CSE 3 Computational Thinking By Mary Nguyen Course Overview: CSE3 is a computer class held in UCSD where students are able to learn more about all the different functions and programs that the computer world has to offer. We learn how to make our own HTML scripting as well as operating JavaScript-related programs and features. CSE 3 Fluency with Information Technology Dynamic Webpage Programming with JavaScript Data Analysis and Visualization with MS Excel Making Information Available to the World with HTML and Web Pages We made HTML scripting with JavaScript to create an interactive website where people could click on certain buttons to allow a message to pop up afterwards. Each button then represents a different “alert”. For this particular project, we made a “Donate to Wikipedia!” webpage where people are given a certain amount to donate. The more people “donate”, the more credits they are awarded, which presents them with different levels (such as gold, platinum, bronze, and so forth). In CSE3, we used a program called Microsoft Excel to create a budget outline along with the use of pie charts to further show what Excel is capable of and the different functions it has. In CSE3, we learned how to create calendars using HTML scripts on the Notepad++ program at our school’s computer labs. We gathered a few images to represent holidays that were coming up in May and we used that as a part of our calendar for the lab. To the right is my HTML text that I typed out on Notepad++ in order to create the webpage for “Donate to Wikipedia!”. Visual Programming with Alice Desktop Publishing with MS Word Presentation of Information with MS PowerPoint We used a program called Alice to create a short clip of frogs jumping into a pond to escape from a hawk. The way that we made the frogs jump was implemented through the Alice program using JavaScript. Using Microsoft Word, we created our “Career Plan” page with many different pictures we found on the internet and put them all together to present our major with details on what our career is going to be and what we will be doing in the future. As a part of our lab projects, we used Microsoft PowerPoint to create slideshows with nice layouts and designs. We experimented with bar graphs, pie charts, and many other features that were presented to us in PowerPoint.
