  2. We’ve been asked by the American Author’s Association to create and exhibit for the Huntington Library. The Huntington Library is home to some of the most significant compilations of literature and books in the United States. They host both temporary and permanent exhibits of famous works, such as the Gutenberg Bible, the works of Shakespeare, and more. Our purpose is to highlight the literary merits of the author, Cynthia Voigt and her novel “Dicey’s Song,” a Postmodern piece of writing that portrays a family who face common hardship in American society; being raised by grandparents. Scenario

  3. Others can connect to the novel because it portrays an American reality that a high amount of children don’t live under the traditional household. • Voigt makes it clear that family comes first no matter the circumstances. • What the author wants to instill in her audience is that it’s important to appreciate what you have. Novel connects to america

  4. Dicey’s Song • In Dicey’s Song the Tillerman children are adopted and raised by their grandmother whom they’d never metup until arriving at her home in Crisfield, Maryland.

  5. 1999 - 2011 Total Adoptions in America Total: 233,934

  6. Society • For centuries, grandparents have raised their grandchildren. The 2010 United States Census exposed that 4.9 million children were being brought up by their grandparents. • In many occasions, this has been beneficial for the children and lead them to success.

  7. Some children that are raised by their grandparents aren’t as fortunate as others. They may undergo: • Developmental, physical, behavioral, academic, and emotional problems • Rejection, anger, and guilt. On the other hand…

  8. One of the ways I chose to characterize characters from the novel was through the use of poetry .. individual projects
