Maternal Mortality • Itisanindicator of health • Eachyearthere are 23,000 MM , butthere are a lot of sequels as consequence of obstetricalcomplications • There are still gaps amongcountries in LatinAmerica • MM expressthe social inequities • Weknowthe causes of MM • Weemphasizethe ESMM as animportantissue

  9. Sexual Violenceagainstwomen • Sexual violence (SV) isveryfrequent in ourcountries • SV is a publichealthproblem • SV produces severecomplications: physical and mental • Thevictimsaren’ttreatedfrequentlyby non training professionals and late. Somecountrieshaveimportantadvances

  10. Modern MAC . IUD & EC • Contraceptionisaninvestmentfordevelopment and isimportantforpublichealth • It no longer has a quantitativeapproach • Westillface gaps in ourregion. Thereislessfundingavailable • There are inequities and unmetneeds • IUD use islower • There are conflictswith EC • Strongermaleparticipationisneeded

UnwantedPregnancy and UnsafeAbortion • Unwantedpregnanciesfrequentlygiveorigintounsafe & clandestineabortion • Itisstill quite frequent in LAC and theworld • Yearly, almost 4 millionunsafeabortionsoccur in LAC and 4000 MM cases • Unmet FP needsalsogiveorigintounsafeabortions • Registries are notgood. SIP-A isbeingintroduced

UnwantedPregnancy & Unsafeabortion • Quality of post abortioncareisinefficient • Someactivitiestopreventunsafeabortion and makesafeabortion more accesible are goingon • Postpartum and post abortioncontraception are goodstrategiesto reduce unwantedpregnancy • Members of FLASOG’s Sexual RigthsCommittee are part of FIGO’sInitiative: Prevention of UnsafeAbortion

Adolescent Sexual & ReproductiveHealth • Adolescents are animportantpart of the general population • Theyhavesomeunhealthybehaviors: Early and unprotected sexual activity • InadequateAttitude • Sexual educationislackingordefficient • Services are scarce and unfriendly • Someriskfactorsmakethem more vulnerable

ExpectedResults, activities • Result:Quality of obstetricservicesisimproved, speciallyemergencyservices in the 6 countrieswithhighermortalityrates • Activities: - Assistanceforprotocolapplication - Assistanceforimplementation/ strenghteningReference and Contrar . system - Evaluation of MM Committees

ExpectedResults and activities • Result: Interestto reduce UP and unsafeabortionisincreased • Activities: - Two Regional Forums (CA & SA) onunsafeabortionprevention, withscientificsocieties, MS, ME & civil society - Academicexpert regional meetingtomodifycurricula at universiylevelon SRH , toincludehumanrightsapproach, integral and intercultural care
