  1. “The contraption that will open your cellular device” Oh yea, that’s Patrick Robby Alan Amanda Krista Final Team Project, EF 151

  2. Project Description A device in which, through a series of energy conversions, allows someone to answer their cell phone hands free. • A funnel fills a bottle with water • Weight of water pulls down the bottle, which pulls down a string that is attached to the bottle • Force from the string that is on a pulley causes the string to lift a board and produce an incline • Ball rolls down a path onto a mousetrap • Weight of ball causes mousetrap to go off • String is tied onto mousetrap that is attached to top portion of the cell phone • Force of mousetrap spring’s force on mousetrap bar pulls string • Tension force of string causes cell phone to open

  3. Energy Conversions Water is poured into the funnel KE of the bottle moving downward equals KE of board moving upward. KE of the board moving causes the ball’s velocity to start rolling down the ramp, plus the ELOSS of the friction of the ball rolling. Ball’s weight equals necessary force able to set off mousetrap. Trigger of trap releases the force in compressed string. String attached to the spring of trap exerts same force of released spring. Force on string equals amount of energy required to open cell phone. ELOSS obtained through device does not compare to amount of excess energy produced.

  4. Let’s See How It Works…

  5. Watch out for the Mousetrap! Robby wasn’t quick enough…..

  6. Conclusion Though our device could have been made more energy efficient by using a different combination of materials, it worked well in achieving our anticipated outcome. The device endured a series of changes due to previous idea failures before we were successful. Each team member equally contributed and was open-minded to everyone’s ideas. We were able to apply many of the concepts we learned this semester, and in addition were able to demonstrate teamwork, innovation, technical skills, and communication skills.

  7. Individual Contributions Construction, Materials, testing of mousetrap Construction, Powerpoint, Uploading of files Construction, Report Revisions, Final Preparations
