Tying The Avalon Fly. “Permit Crack” ( I hope!). Step One. Hook is Tiemco 811S size 2 Thread Tan 140 Denier and silver d umbell eyes. Step Two. Wrap thread to near hook bend and add 1cm clump orange arctic fox to BOTTOM of hook Add stiff 20-30 pound mono to top of hook . Step Three.

  1. Tying The Avalon Fly “Permit Crack” (I hope!)

  2. Step One • Hook is Tiemco 811S size 2 • Thread Tan 140 Denier and silver dumbell eyes

  3. Step Two • Wrap thread to near hook bend and add 1cm clump orange arctic fox to BOTTOM of hook • Add stiff 20-30 pound mono to top of hook

  4. Step Three • Tie in two strands of black or wine colored flash, one on each side of hook • Tie in two black and orange banded rubber legs, again one each side of hook

  5. Step Four • Tie in grey or tan maribou near hook bend • Palmer forward to eye of hook and tie in

  6. Step Five • Tie in two strips of flat crystal braid to either side of hook at bend

  7. Step Six • Tie in two bunny strips, grey or tan to hook beginning at eye of hook, back around dumbell eyes, place wraps behind strips to set them at 45 degree angle to shank

  8. Step Seven • Bring the two crystal braid strips forward to eye and secure with thread • Sorry, no photo here, but I am certain that you get the picture!

  9. Step Eight • Add 2.7mm beads to mono • Bring mono forward and secure to hook • Whip finish head with orange thread

  10. Step Nine • Admire work • Visualize catching permit • Open beer!

  11. Final Check • I wonder if permit have micrometers? • Recipe calls for 2.7mm beads, Mine are 3.3mm!! • I now have an excuse if I fail to get a permit!
