  1. Primary Electronic Components of Printed Circuit Board and Their Functions In this age of booming electronic revolution, it is almost impossible to imagine an electrical device devoid of printed circuit board or PCB. Printed circuit boards are basically developed to route signals and power through electronic devices offering both mechanical and electrical base for connections. Conductive passageways or tracks are etched over a copper sheet form the basic layout of PCB.

  2. However complex or multilayered a printed circuit board is, it includes some electronic components which are the basis of all PCBs. PCB suppliers must deal with all these components to design excellent printed circuit boards. Let us get familiar with these components and know their functions.

  3. Resistor- As the name suggests, resistor is that component of a printed circuit board that resists current. In order to do this, resistors consumes power up to a significant amount. Resistors prevent overheating and damage to the device from overflow of current.

  4. Capacitor: Capacitor is like a battery with very low capacity. Just like the battery, a capacitor can be charged and discharged. Primary goal of including capacitor in a PCB is to introduce time-delay in a circuit. In addition to this, resistor also lowers down noise level of a circuit to make voltage supply more stable. In general, two types of capacitors are very common like polarized and non-polarized.

  5. Transistor: A Transistor acts like a switch controlled by electrical signals. Unlike the regular switches, transistor does not have just two states (ON and OFF). It can also be “turned little ON” by manipulating the current flow at its base.

  6. Inductor: Inductor is a coil of wire sometimes making round of a metal core. It basically acts as a filter inside the PCB.

  7. Integrated Circuit: It is the electrical circuit that has been fitted within a PCB chip. An integrated circuit can be of anything like a microprocessor, an amplifier or a USB serial converter.

  8. Light Emitting Diode (LED):- LED offers visual feedback from a PCB. It also shows that the circuit has power within itself. LEDs are most commonly used in laptops, mobile phones, cars, camera and televisions.
