  2. Learning Intention • Outline the natureof the Achievement Standard • Identify and unpack the purpose and the place ofthe Achievement Standard in the Religion curriculum

Success criteria • You have an understanding of: • the Natureof the Achievement Standard, • Whenand Howthe Achievement Standard is used, • Wherethe Achievement Standard is located in the Religion curriculum • You have the capacity and tools to: • - lead professional learning about the Nature, Purposeand Placeof the Achievement Standard in the Religion curriculum with members of your school community.

  4. The achievement standard is the measure for each student’s learning progress and achievement.

  5. Nature of the Achievement Standards Framework of growth and development- in each learning area- across P-10- describes a broad sequence of learning Year 8 By the end of: Year 7 Year 6

  6. How is the standard constructed? Allows students to demonstrate their: • depth of conceptual understanding • sophistication of skills • ability to apply essential knowledge What is it? • a description + A description that: • describes knowledge, understanding, skills an annotated work sample

  7. Nature of the Achievement Standards What type of Standard is it? Minimum? Maximum? All I have to do/teach?

  8. Nature of the Achievement Standards What type of Standard is it? The Achievement Standard describes and illustrates level of learning that is needed to continue on to new learning in the sequence successfully. Our high expectations for students enable us to use this as a reference point for planning for students’ learning and how they will achieve beyond it.

  15. Scenario A A teacher goes to the STIE as she is concerned about a student’s progress in Religion. How could the achievement standard be used in this situation? Scenario B • A parent comes to see the teacher as he is concerned that his daughter is not achieving with the skill level he would expect in Religion. • How could the achievement standard be used in this situation? Scenario C Scenario D • A parent comes to the teacher concerned that the teacher is expecting too much of her child in the area of Religion. • How could the achievement standard be used in this situation? • A principal talks to a teacher about her judgements about the cohort at the end of the year in Religion. He is concerned that there are a lot of students at well above standard. • How could the achievement standard be used in this situation?

Reporting BCE Advice and Guidelines for Twice-Yearly Reporting to Parents P-10 • Reporting Student Achievement in Years 1 – 10 • When communicating student achievement to their parent community, schools: • Provide an overall achievement result for each learning area/subject studied; and • Can also choose to report results in each of the two elements of the achievement standard i.e. a result related to Knowledge and Understanding and a result related to Skill.
