  1. Finding & Dealing with Sponsors The 499/599 Guide To Making The Investigation FUN

  2. FUN • Passion – something that you enthuse over • Motivation – this happens when you work on a topic that you are passionate about • Results = FUN • Find the best topic in the ideal industry

  3. Control • Direction – have your say where it’s going • Scope – make sure you don’t bite off more than you can handle • Speed – often industry requirements are different to what the WMS expect

  4. Knowledge • Practical – be prepared to learn a lot from your sponsor ~ the real world • Applying theory – you’ve spent a long time studying so be sure you give the sponsor the befit of your knowledge (you know more than you think you do)

  5. Methodical • Formal Proposal – this forms the blueprint for the whole investigation. You need to take control of this but in conjunction with the sponsor and your supervisor. • Be Consistent • Be Systematic • Be Objective

  6. Communication • Sponsors – develop a good rapport right from the start. It will prove invaluable • Supervisors – regular fortnightly e-mail contact is recommended. You need to be seen to be making progress • Respondents – well all those who are contributing to the investigation. Without their help the investigation will not succeed

  7. On-time • Final Report – the sponsors expect this and so do the supervisors. Six months is a long time in business • Meetings – once scheduled keep to the exact times • Focus groups – people give up their time to help ~ start/finish on time as arranged • Surveys – two weeks for their return is OK

  8. ROI • Report of an Investigation – this equally could mean return on investment. • More effort = better results • The effort will be easy if you are motivated • Altogether you will have had FUN and have a document that you will be proud of • It may lead to “that special job” • As Gollum said it’s PRECIOUS
