  1. bverlaat@nikhef.nl IBL CO2 cooling planning03 July 2013 Jan Godlewski, Bart Verlaat, LukaszZwalinski

  2. IBL CO2 cooling sub units • Several sub projects all with their own planning • Fluid systems: • CO2 circulation plants (2x) • CO2 accumulator Unit (1x) • R404a chiller units (2x) • Vacuum transfer line (97m) • Junction box (1x) • Manifold box (2x) • Flex lines (14x) • Support systems • Vacuum system • Electronics • CO2 control cabinets (2x) • Maintenance control cabinet (1x inside accu unit) • Chiller control (2x, inside chiller units) • Vacuum control cabinet (1x) Inside USX Inside USA

  3. Assembly and commission approach • Cooling system commissioning will be done via the junction box dummy load. • Target for hardware installation =>September - December 2013. • 1st circulation before xmas (cooling the xmas Champaign bottle!) • Commissioning campaign January- April 2014 • IBL cooling connection after IBL installation • Cold tests with IBL from June to September Manifold box Flex lines Junction box 3kW dummy heater Pump Transfer line Cooling plant (2x CO2 + 1x accu + 2x chiller)

  4. Current focus • Current focus is on the hardware needed for junction box commissioning. • Fluid systems: • CO2 circulation plants (2x) • CO2 accumulator Unit (1x) • R404a chiller units (2x) • Vacuum transfer line (97m) • Junction box (1x) • Manifold box (2x) • Flex lines (14x) • Support systems • Vacuum system • Electronics • CO2 control cabinets (2x) • Maintenance control cabinet (1x inside accu unit) • Chiller control (2x, inside chiller units) • Vacuum control cabinet (1x) • Commissioning is a length process: • Tuning of PID parameters • Make it work in full phase space of temperature and heat load • Test procedures like start-up, switch over, standby, back-out. Needed for junction box commissioning Needed after IBL installation

  5. Road to CO2 circulation • Rough schedule of units (Everything will be directly installed in the pit): • CO2 plants: Nikhef delivery begin of September. • Activities: Cabling and IO checks • Possibility of local CO2 circulation using fill bottle as accumulator and small chiller as condenser • Accumulator unit end of September: • Activities: Cabling and IO checks • CO2 filling for specific accu tests • Chiller units delivery half October • Activities: Cabling and I\O checks • Direct connection to CO2 plant, circulation for test possible • Transfer line installation: 4 weeks in October • Installation of Junction box in October • Inter connection of units with orbital welding in November • 1st circulation of Junction box in December. • See detailed planning in Excel file in this meetings indico.

  6. Road to IBL cooling • Commissioning via junction box and dummy load (January to April 2014). • Test all procedures • Tune parameters • Long duration testing • During junction box commissioning focus on other hardware like • Vacuum system • Flex line integration • Manifolds • IBL installation in March 2014 • IBL to cooling connection in April-May 2014 • Flex lines will be installed after the IBL is in. • IBL with cooling commissioning: June to September 2014 • Beam pipe back-out October 2014. • When still alive IBL with cooling is ready for physics! • See detailed planning in Excel file in this meetings indico.
