  4. Areas of Trade • First country to trade spices was Portugal • All continents except Australia and Antarctica participated in the spice trade

  5. Pros/Cons of Spice Trade • Pro: Spices were added to the food • Con: Opium was introduced, creating a drug problem for China • Pro: Helped boost the economies of countries involved • Con: Helped start the slave trade

  6. Contributions to Modern World • Brought the whole world into one connected trading system • Start to all things being traded throughout the world • Introduction to new technologies, cultures, currencies, etc. being traded
