  1. Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

  2. Author • Elizabeth Gilbert is an award-winning writer of both fiction and non-fiction. • A Novelist • A News reporter

  3. In 2002——The Last American Man, which was a finalist for both the National Book Award and the National Book Critics' Circle Award. • Best know for——her 2006 memoir Eat, Pray, Love, which was published in over thirty languages and sold more than seven million copies worldwide. The film, released in 2010, stars Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem • In 2010—— Committed

  4. In Eat Pray Love, Elizabeth Gilbert fell in love with Felipe , which seemed to be a satisfactory ending. Just like most of the love stories, the two stay together and we think they will marry and lead a happy life. Committed a follow-up to Eat Pray Love A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage A romantic and magical love story

  5. However, you may be wrong. Marriage means that the two persons will open a door to another different world and began another life, which involves social responsibilities and lots of trivia. • 这让我想起微博上的一句话,意思大约是: 通常爱情片演到结婚,就没戏了。(it is a pun.)

  6. In these two books, Eat Pray love is a romantic and love story, while Committed is related to matrimony thinking after their passionate love.

  7. Book description:Eat Pray Love • This beautifully written, heartfelt memoir touched a nerve among both readers and reviewers. • Elizabeth Gilbert tells how she made the difficult choice to leave behind all the trappings of modern American success (marriage, house in the country, career) and find, instead, what she truly wanted from life.

  8. Setting out for a year to study three different aspects of her nature amid three different cultures, Gilbert explored the art of pleasure in Italy and the art of devotion in India, and then a balance between the two on the Indonesian island of Bali. • At the end of her book, she fell in love with Felipe, a Brazilian-born man of Australian citizenship who'd been living in Indonesia when they met.

  9. Book description:Committed • Resettling in America, the couple swore eternal fidelity to each other, but also swore to get legally married under any circumstances. (Both were survivors of previous divorces, so they are afraid of marriage) • But providence intervened one day. The United States government detained Felipe at an American border crossing—gave the couple a choice: they could either get married, or Felipe would never be allowed to enter the country again. ()

  10. Having been effectively sentenced to wed, Gilbert tackled her fears of marriage by delving into this topic completely, trying with all her might to discover through historical research, interviews, and much personal reflection what this stubbornly enduring old institution actually is. Told with Gilbert‘s trademark wit, intelligence and compassion, Committed attempts to “turn on all the lights” when it comes to matrimony, frankly examining questions of compatibility, infatuation, fidelity(忠诚), family tradition, social expectations, divorce risks and humbling responsibilities.

  11. comments • Committed is more realistic than Eat Pray Love. The author tried to search as much information as possible, through the complex western marriage history, in order to persuade herself to accept the marriage again. It relates to feminist movement, comments on marriage scholars, guidance on interests of property, and even advices from Buddha. • Most of people maintain that they will get married someday with somebody. It is like a rule that the society made. But before that, we should clear your thoughts about marriage. Be responsible for yourself. As is at the end of committed, Gilbert found her own supporting reason: she needs her own space for love.
