  2. Militia Men Prepare • How? • Training sessions • Make bullets • Stockpile rifles and muskets **Minute Men: Ready to fight in a MINUTE! British take note that colonist are geared and ready to go

  3. British Prepare • “Blows must decide who gets America” • British General Thomas Gage: Has 3,000 men in Boston • Goal? • Take away weapons and arrest colonial leaders

  4. Word gets back that militia storing ammo at Concord (20 miles north of Boston) • SO……. • Gage orders 700 troops under John Pitcain to march to Bostonseize and destroy

  5. Alert the Colonist • April 1775: Paul Revere and William Dawes ride to Lexington to warn Adams and Hancock that British are on their way • “The Regulars are Out” =___________ • Adams is excited and ready to fight!!

  6. Lexington and Concord • 1. Redcoats approach Lexington at dawn • 2. 70 minute men waiting for them (muskets ready to go, led by John Parker) • 3. 1 shot fired, 8 minutemen dead • 4. British continue march towards Concord • ONLY TO FIND….colonist have already removed gunpowder, but destroy what is left • 6. Head back to Boston (British) • 7. On the way back, colonists hide and fire at them • Reaching Boston200 wounded, 73 dead • START OF REVOLUTION

  7. Fort Ticonderoga • Captured by Ethan Allen and his “Green Mountain Boys” • British caught off guard • “Surrender in the name of the Continental Congress” • They do….

  8. Life after Lexington and Concord • Committee of Correspondence: asking for volunteers to join militia (about 20,000) • Now waiting game between colonist and Britain • Who’s going to make the first move?

Battle of Bunker Hill • Juner 1775: 1200 milita men led by William Prescott • Set up defense at Bunker Hill and Breeds Hill • British trying to drive out colonist from harbor • Redcoats charge with bayonets • ** Low on Ammo: “Don’t fire until you see the white of their eyes” They fire anyway… • Run out of ammoBritish win, but heavy loss

  10. Choosing Sides • Colonist….. • Remain loyal or join rebels? • Remain loyal to Britain =Loyalist (no cause for a rebellion) • Fight=Patriots
