  14. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION C: We have not loved you with our whole heart, and we have not loved our neighbour as ourselves. We deserve your eternal punishment. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.

  15. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION C: Forgive us, renew us, and lead us,so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

  17. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Do you believe that Jesus Christ has redeemed you from all your sins, and do you desire forgiveness in his name? C: I do.

  18. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Do you intend with the help of the Holy Spirit to live as in God's presence, and to strive daily to lead a holy life, even as Christ has made you holy? C: I do.

  19. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: As a called and ordained servant of the word, I announce the grace of God to all of you. On behalf of my Lord Jesus Christ, and by his command, I forgive the sins of all of you who repent and believe, in the name of the Father and of the Son † and of the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you. 27. FIRST READING Joshua5:9-12 CEV The passover at Gilgal, in the promised land. R: The first reading for the fourth Sunday in Lent is written in chapter 5 of Joshua, beginning at verse 9.

  28. Joshua 5:9-12 9The LORD told Joshua, "It was a disgrace for my people to be slaves in Egypt, but now I have taken away that disgrace." So the Israelites named the place Gilgal, and it still has that name.

  29. Joshua 5:9-12 10Israel continued to camp at Gilgal in the desert near Jericho, and on the fourteenth day of the same month, they celebrated Passover.

  30. Joshua 5:9-12 11-12The next day, God stopped sending the Israelites manna to eat each morning, and they started eating food grown in the land of Canaan. They ate roasted grain and thin bread made of the barley they had gathered from nearby fields.  This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  31. Psalm 32 CEV R: The Psalm is Psalm 32 R: 1Our God, you bless everyone whose sins you forgive and wipe away. C:2You bless them by saying, "You told me your sins, without trying to hide them, and now I forgive you.”

  32. Psalm 32 CEV R: 3Before I confessed my sins, my bones felt limp, and I groaned all day long. C: 4Night and day your hand weighed heavily on me, and my strength was gone as in the summer heat.

  33. Psalm 32 CEV R: 5So I confessed my sins and told them all to you. I said, "I'll tell the LORD each one of my sins.“ Then you forgave me and took away my guilt. C: 6We worship you, LORD, and we should always pray whenever we find out that we have sinned. Then we won't be swept away by a raging flood.

  34. Psalm 32 CEV R: 7You are my hiding place! You protect me from trouble, and you put songs in my heart because you have saved me. C: 8You said to me, "I will point out the road that you should follow. I will be your teacher and watch over you.

  35. Psalm 32 CEV R: 9Don't be stupid like horses and mules that must be led with ropes to make them obey." C: 10All kinds of troubles will strike the wicked, but your kindness shields those who trust you, LORD.

  36. Psalm 32 CEV R: 11And so your good people should celebrate and shout. C: Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit As it was in the beginning is now and will be for ever. Amen.

  37. SECOND READING 2Corinthians5:16-21 CEV In Christ the new has come R: The second reading is written in chapter 5 of 2nd Corinthians, beginning at verse 16.

  38. 2Corinthians5:16-21 16We are careful not to judge people by what they seem to be, though we once judged Christ in that way. 17Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new.

  39. 2Corinthians5:16-21 18God has done it all! He sent Christ to make peace between himself and us, and he has given us the work of making peace between himself and others. 19What we mean is that God was in Christ, offering peace and forgiveness to the people of this world.

  40. 2Corinthians5:16-21 And he has given us the work of sharing his message about peace. 20We were sent to speak for Christ, and God is begging you to listen to our message. We speak for Christ and sincerely ask you to make peace with God.

  41. 2Corinthians5:16-21 21Christ never sinned! But God treated him as a sinner, so that Christ could make us acceptable to God. This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  42. gospel Luke 15:1-3,11b-32 CEV The parable of the lost son M: The holy gospel is written in chapter 15 of the Gospel according to St Luke, beginning at verse 1. C: ♫ Glory to you, O Lord.
