  5. Telecommunications/Data Transmission Infrastructure

  6. 2004 Transmission Summary • 1. HHC Conducts Dial-in to BOC RADIUS (Remote Access) System • 2. Enumerator’s Transmission ID/Password Authenticate • 3. Access is Granted and SSL(Secure-Socket Layer) Connection is Established with the Afaria System • 4. Data Transmission Sequence: • - Afaria System Pulls Completed Work from HHC • - Afaria System Pushes New Software to HHC • - Afaria System Pushes New Assignments/LMRs to HHC • 5. Afaria Disconnects HHC • 6. Post Transmission Processing Executes on HHC • 7. HHC Displays Transmission Status Message (Failed/Successful) • 8. Enumerator Resets HHC, Ready to Go!

  7. Transmission Lessons Learned • - Lost links • - Initial Transmission too Large • - Unable to Load Test Asynchronous Dial-up • - Instability of Device/Async Transmission • - Password Configuration • - Two Passwords-Device Password vs System Password • - Inability to Change System Password • - Initial Preset Transmission Error’s • - Ability to Monitor End-to-End Transmissions

  8. 2004 Security Features • Password Protection: • - Device Access and Transmission Passwords Implemented • - Inactivity Lock-out: • - 3 Minutes of Inactivity Invokes Screen Lockout • - Device Password Must Be Entered to Resume • - No Effect on Open Session/Work • HHC Data Encryption: • - National Security Agency AES 128 Bit and FIPS 140-2 Compliant • - Real-Time Encryption • - All Title 13 Data (Respondent Data & Maps) is Encrypted!

  9. 2004 Security Features • Data Transmission: • - Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Connection • - Established at Dial-in/Enumerator Authentication • - SSL Connection is a “Secure Pipe” Between HHC and Afaria • - Implementation is FIPS 140 Compliant
