Obstetric Unit • Consists of labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn nursery • 4 birthing rooms • Newborn nursery and isolation nursery • 16 bed postpartum unit • Women’s Pavilion also includes specialized programs in osteoporosis and menopause, mammography, minimally invasive hysterectomy and breast biopsy

  4. Role of Preceptor • One nurse manager for OB unit- Laurie Kaudewitz • Promote a positive work environment • Maintain budget • Resolve conflicts between staff and patients • Payroll • Schedule • Certified lactation consultant

Project Objectives • Educate staff on important facts about breastfeeding basics • Provide a visual reference, including research, that highlights key points on breastfeeding basics • Promote confidence and increase knowledge in staff to enable them to promote breastfeeding rather than bottle feeding

  11. Recommendation for Improvement • Express feelings to each other rather than talking behind backs and gossiping • Maintain a good relationship with all the doctors • Communication • Keep track and replace equipment used
