  1. Umbrella Criteria V0.8 and evolving

  2. Progress and Assistance Needs • Abstract, Intro – in place for all to review, edit • Methods – Most analyses with some coverage • Results – bones are there, table is key • Discussion – concepts in place, text to grow • Appendices – many in hand, questions on what some folks would like to do with their presentations

  3. Assistance NeedsMETHODS • Methods – • Boynton et al – received • New VA work – we should alert Dave Jas/VIMS to needs here

  4. Assistance needsRESULTS • Summary table – All analysts • Attempting to capture analysis and associated contribution (30-7 day comparison, 30-1day comparison) • Asking each of the analysts to look over the table and identify if 1) we have captured the appropriate comparisons you worked on and 2) the findings • Text – All analysts • Grouping results by their contributions to levels of support and caveats about Umbrella Criteria assessment. This is flowing out of the table results but again, each analyst, feel free to provide bullets on your key findings to fit into 30 vs 7 day, 30 vs. 1 day, 30 vs. instantaneous sections.

  5. Assistance Needs DISCUSSION • Umbrella Criteria – Fact or Fiction – ALL - post workshop. • Sequential vs. rolling means with CFD (Tish/Mike/Claire – expand this briefly) • Interpolation issues and options: Fourier vs Spline vs other options (Tish/Mike/Elgin/Matt) – how did these issues affect interpretation. What do we recommend as the preferred interpolation technique if we have to use one? • Seasons – months (June-Sept) vs. biological (15 oC) thresholds (Walter/Elgin) • Climate change sensitivity using biologically-based, temperature-driven, seasonal definition thresholds (Walter/Elgin) • Recommendations on adapting the assessment methodology to work with the biological thresholds (Elgin, Walter, others?)

  6. Assistance Needs DISCUSSION • Present simplified analysis assumption has Month = 30 days, fits in with adapting the assessment process discussion. (Elgin, Claire, Tish, Mike, Matt, others?) • Shallow water behavior – Quantified significance of differences between shallow water and open water (Peter/Claire)

  7. Assistance Needs DISCUSSION • 4.2 Assessment/Analytical support directions • 4.2.1.1 New analyses: • 4.2.1.2 Assess comparisons of interpolation of space then time (present method) with time then space? (Will we get to this?) • 4.2.1.3 Can we get more information by daily interpolations (monitoring cruises take 2 weeks so are daily interpolations more accurate than a mash up of biweekly work?. Recommendations on assessment resolution – (Will we get to this?). • 4.2.1.4 Supercomputing time (organic, ALL – how do we handle higher frequency data assessments best?) • 4.2.1.4.1 New interpolator code directions – (Jeni) • 4.2.1.4.1.1 3D, 4D references to STAC workshop (Jeni)

  8. Assistance Needs DISCUSSION • 4.3 Why are we failing criteria? (Needs substance from Workshop) • Water Quality Monitoring Program recommendations for effective data collection supporting criteria assessment (Needs substance from the workshop – starter material included here).

  9. Appendices • Under development
