GCOOS DMACC Members Engagement in GCOOS Data Projects • Standardization of Local Data Nodes in the GCOOS –RA – Ann Jochens, PI and Matt Howard, Co-PI – 10 Non – Federal data providers were funded to implement DMAC technologies at their node recommended by IOOS DMAC - Some node managers are members of the GCOOS DMACC • GCOOS Data Portal – DMACC members provided feedback to Matt Howard and Felimon Nonong, Lead Computer Programmer – in progress

GCOOS DMACC Members Engagement in DMAC Projects relevant to GCOOS-RA • Bill Burnett, NDBC – Quality Assurance of Real-Time Oceanographic Data (QARTOD) - continuing multi-agency effort to address the Quality Assurance and Quality Control issues of the Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) and broader international community (www.qartod.org) • Julie Bosch, Co-PI – Q2O (http://q2o.whoi.edu/ ) enable implementation of QA/QC standards into the evolving OpenGeospatial Consortium (OGC) – Sensor Web Enablement frameworks.

GCOOS DMACC Members Engagement in DMAC Projects relevant to GCOOS-RA • Matt Howard and Vembu Subramanian – Technical Advisory Committee, IOOS Observations Registry Project (http://obsregistry.org/) • Matt Howard – GCOOS – RA Liaison to IOOS DMAC • Virgil Zetterlind – EarthNC, Inc specializes in spatial mapping systems development and the integration of static and dynamic data systems within the Google Earth Framework (http://earthnc.com) • Kathleen O’Keife and Vembu Subramanian – Bio Hab Site, SECOORA

  12. GCOOS DMACC Members Engagement in DMAC Projects relevant to GCOOS-RA • Dwayne Porter – Providing NERRS water quality. Meteorological (real-time) and nutrients (non-real time) to RAs and NDBC • Erik Stabenau and Vembu Subramanian worked with NDBC on an inter-agency effort to make real-time National Park Service Everglades Marine Monitoring Network Stations data available on NDBC web site – GCOOS Data Portal should be able to get the same from NDBC.

GCOOS DMACC interaction with Gulf of Mexico Alliance Data Management Advisory Committee (GOMA DMAC) GCOOS DMACC Members representation - Matt Howard – Water Quality PIT member and IT/Tech - Julie Bosch - One of the Federal Advisor to GOMA DMC - Vembu Subramanian – Recommended and Elected by Worth Nowlin, Chair, GCOOS BOD for GOMA DMAC/GCOOS DMACC coordination

  14. GCOOS DMACC and GOMA DMAC • Matt Howard, Julie Bosch and Vembu Subramanian attended the GOMA DMAC Meeting held at St. Petersburg, FL. Chris Simo (GCOOS E&O) also attended as Environmental Education Rep. • Discussions on: GOMA DMC Mission, Council Membership, Communication with other groups, Election of Chairs, Data Management Activities and Needs of PITs, Tools to help with Data Management (GCOOS Data Portal was identified as one of them), near-term and long-term action items • Melanie Morris, Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, Nutrient PIT Team and Jim Gibeaut, Harte Research Institute were elected as Co-Chairs

GCOOS DMACC Data Management Plan (DMP) Document Preparation Status • Worth Nowlin, Chair requested GCOOS DMACC to take on this activity at GCOOS BOD meeting in September, 2009 • To address the preparation of the draft document, GCOOS DMACC Conference Call was held and we discussed how committee members can help to prepare this document in October 2009. • This is an on-going effort, Anticipated completion by Summer 2010

  16. GOMA DMAC Meeting Concluded with Pep Rally for NO Saints

  17. GCOOS DMACC Members Participation in Conferences • Several DMACC Members and Local Data Nodes (Node Managers) have submitted or presented papers in meetings such as MTS/IEEE Ocean 09, Ocean Obs 09, QARTOD etc.

  18. Next Steps • Need upgrade to the GCOOS Web site and to the GCOOS Data Portal. • Need to think about strategies to keep the local data network nodes contributing to the GCOOS data portal • Going after new data (bio-geo-chem) providers other than local data nodes projects within the GCOOS region. Guidance Document need to be prepared and provided to new data providers • Establishing customer projects in the utilization of the GCOOS aggregated data. • Data Archival and Redundancy

  19. Next Steps • Recommending to have a joint DMACC and PSC meeting this year. • Other Suggestions?
