  3. Why Choose? KS3 –> KS4 –> KS5 • KS3 – Approx 15 subjects • KS4 – Approx 10-11 subjects • KS5 – Approx 4 - 6 subjects • Post 18 – 1-2 subjects

Raising the Participation Age • If you are in Year 10 or below, in September 2012, you will need to continue until at least your 18th birthday, as most people already do. • RPA is not about raising the school leaving age. You will be able to participate through a range of options: • Full-time education, such as school or college; • An Apprenticeship; or • Part-time education or training if you are employed, self-employed or volunteering for 20 hours or more a week

English and Maths Study + Within the structure of the Option system additional study time is available to increase pupils’ chances performing on the D / E borderline to achieve a ‘C’ grade and to see the relevance of the application of maths and English across other curriculum areas. BY INVITATION ONLY

  14. Other Options BLOCK E: *SCIENCE - This additional science period is for those students who have been selected for the Triple Science course and wish to study this course. SWIFT - This course will take place out of the school environment, off site, and all day on a Wednesday. There are cost and transport implications for this course. Please read the relevant section in the curriculum guide for more information.

  15. Parental Support & Financial Commitment SWIFT courses are very expensive due to specialist facilities and small group size. Places are limited and pupils must demonstrate commitment and genuine interest in the subject area to be considered. The cost of the 2 year SWIFT course, including registration & exams is £2,400. If there are serious financial constraints which may prevent your child from attending the course, the school may be able to offer some financial support. Funding is limited and negotiable and at this stage we have little idea of the volume of interest and amount of help required. The cost of Xtend is set by the institution delivering the course (approx £350-£500). Most last one year (Year 10). Costs can be found on our school website and in the Option booklet. Parents are required to arrange and pay for cost of transport

Suggested Process • 1 - Know your core curriculum • 2 - Know you • Use fast Tomato and other sites (see Useful links) • Talk to your parents • Look at your previous reports/profiles • Talk to your teachers • 3 - Know the Option Blocks • Look at the page entitled ‘Option Subjects’ so you know what you can choose • 4 - Know the Option subjects • Look at the details about the options subjects on the Options site • Speak to students who are taking the courses (but be careful some are changing this year) • 5 - Make your choices - Follow the link from the ‘Making My Choices’ page by 25 February 2013
