  1. TG Forum 6/07: User Support Requirements and Plans sergiu@psc.edu

  2. User Support Strategies Our user support approach involves four integrated programs that are coordinated by the GIG and staffed from both GIG and the RPs: • Proactive User Training and Support • Persistent Online Tools and Resources: Website, Knowledgebase, User Portal • Responsive TeraGrid Operations Center (TOC) Helpdesk • Advanced TeraGrid Applications Support (ASTA)

  3. 25 ASTA Projects in 2006 Published TG Science Features, News, Nuggets: • Arterial Karniadakis (Brown U) CTS mpich-G2, Grid interop, GridFTP, Remote Viz, PDIO Steering • Vortonics Boghosian (Tufts U) CTS mpich-G2, Grid interop, Remote Viz • SPICE Coveney (UCL) CHE Grid interop, Steering, GridFTP ; AHE • ENZO Norman (UCSD) AST GridFTP, WAN-GPFS, DMOVER, SRB, Task Mapping • SCEC yr1 Olsen (SDSU) GEO pegasus-VDS, GridFTP/tgcp, WAN-GPFS, SRB • BIRN Ellisman (SDSC) BIO WAN-GPFS, SRB • CMS Newman (Caltech) PHY MyCluster/GridShell • Crystal Deem (Rice) PHY MyCluster/GridShell • Tstorms Droegemeier (OU) ATM parallel scalability,I/O design, ensemble simulations • GADU Maltsev (U Chicago) BIO pegasus-VDS, Grid interop • Turbulence Woodward (U Minn) performance and scaling to 4096 cores; Remote Viz,PDIO Steering Infrastructural enablers: • Injector Heister (Purdue) ASC parallel scalability • MD-Data Jakobsson (UIUC) BIO gsicp, gsissh; customized portal • NREL Brady (Cornell) BIO parallel scalability • CIG Gurnis (Caltech) GEO community code development, SGW development • EarthScope Pavlis (IU) GEO parallelization Ongoing projects: • SCEC yr.2 Olsen (SDSU) GEO Cui (SDSC), Reddy (GIG/PSC) • Nemo3D Klimeck (Purdue) ECD Wang (GIG/PSC), Muriki (SDSC) • Epidemiology Barrett (VA Poly) Cuticchia (Duke) BCS Marcusiu (NCSA) • Demography Lansing (U Arizona) DBS Majumdar (SDSC) • Remote Biological Microscopy Gilpin(U Texas) MCB Hempel (TACC) • Adaptive GIN MD/QM Nakano (USC) DMR Brown (PSC) • Pulmonary Immunity Benos (Pitt) MCB Madrid (PSC) • Pleistocene Hydrology Person (IU) EAR Wang (IU) • Failure of Human Bone Keaveny (UCB) MCA Majumdar (SDSC) • QUAKE Bielak (CMU) MCA Urbanic (PSC)

  4. Requests for Advanced Support • NEW! Optional. VERY IMPORTANT FOR TG project to develop exemplars. • Applicants may request TeraGrid staff assistance for an application code optimization task, in addition to SUs and/or storage. • TG management asks MRAC/LRAC reviewers to advise us on the scientific productivity enhancement value of such requests, considering the entirety of the application http://www.teragrid.org/userinfo/asp.php

  5. xRAC Proactive Support per RP • Approximation since ongoing process; one project needs multiple contacts if it spans multiple RPs (each counted below) coordinated by a GIG USC member. • Includes ASTA assignments • 5/24 assignment counts LRAC MRAC IU 8 11 NCSA 23 29 PSC 34 33 PU 5 4 SDSC 30 24 TACC 14 20 UC+NIU 1 2

  6. Suggested Strategic Priorities in TG Application Development 2007-2010 Help our user community to: • Scale problems, algorithms and codes to Petascale via productive use of Track 2 systems; • Complex workflow development embedding Petascale applications into the entirety of TG infrastructure; • Diversity of disciplines and modalities of resource usage.
