  1. Golf Course Mowing – Stripe or Not

  2. What is the true purpose of mowing a golf course? Does mowing patterns simply enhance the appearance of the course or it has something important to do with the actual function of the course? Jacobsen golf course mowers play the important role of preparing the course for the next session. Mowing patterns highlight features of your golf course. You will also have to consider the health of the turf. It greatly affects fuel consumption and labor. There are following four fairway mowing methods: • Striping • Classic cut • Contour mowing • Pushing and pulling

  3. Striping The majority of golf courses practice this method. Your Jacobsen golf course mowers in this method create a checkerboard pattern on the golf course. However, there will be frequent turning of golf course mower. The excessive wear you see on some turfs is due to the frequent turning of the mower.

  4. Classic Cut Classic cut style was very prevalent when there were no lightweight fairway mowers like Jacobsen golf course mowers. Larger fairway mowers were very difficult to work with for creating a circular pattern with dark and light halves of the fairway. Classic cut style takes less time and demands less fuel and labor costs.

  5. Contour Mowing Though this style creates stripes, these stripes are slightly different from contemporary striping. This method does not create checkerboard patterns on the golf course. It creates curved stripes.

  6. Pushing and Pulling The fairway after pushing and pulling is void of stripes. The turf during pushing is mowed from tee to green. And, the turf during pulling is mowed from green to tee. This is the most preferred mowing, especially for championship events. The selection of the method greatly depends on the budget, labor, type of turf and the desired appearance. So consider these methods before mowing your golf course the next time.
