Background • Linac4 in the construction phase (visit to the CE works after lunch): procurements 2009-11, installation 2012, commissioning 2013. • Few development topics, contributions more oriented towards hardware procurements. • Main subjects: • a. contribution to design and tuning of the RFQ, as a continuation towards the CERN RFQ of the collaboration on the IPHI RFQ. • b. procurement of some high-tech hardware by French laboratories willing to increase their experience in particular fields: HV modulators for klystrons and medium-power RF amplifiers

Linac4 Master Plan New Masterplan for MTP – some modifications with respect to the plan presented on 12.03 MILESTONES: • Building delivery: December 2010 • Infrastructure installation: 2011 • Machine and equipment installation: 2012 • Linac commissioning: 2013 • PSB modifications: shut-down 2013/14. • Beam from PSB: April 2014.

  4. Contributions (detail) • Contribution to the design, RF tuning and commissioning of the Linac4 RFQ, profiting of the CEA experience with the design and construction of the IPHI and SPIRAL2 RFQs. This team would be associated to the development already started at CERN. • 2. Procurement and testing of a solid-state RF amplifier for the Linac4 bunchers, using the experience gained by the RF team at LPSC Grenoble with the SPIRAL2 project. This team would be associated to a development already started at CERN. • 3. Construction and test of the high-voltage modulators that will feed the klystrons of Linac4, profiting of the team involved in the modulators of LAL. The LAL team would be associated to the developments done at CERN which has recently built and commissioned a prototype modulator.

  9. Modulators Difference of +71.4 kEUR with respect to the initial agreement (1.5 MEUR). The correction was made in September 2008 – we are investigating to find out the reason. Note that no VAT is included in the cost estimated by CERN !

Situation • Different meetings in CERN and LAL to agree on the organization • Changement of responsible in CERN • Decision to split in two the contracts • CERN want to keep the technical control of the project • At present we are waiting for participating in the tests phase at CERN • LAL: One existing IE at present in LAL. • In the future there will be a board for a permanent position: maybe also in LAL the contact person will change!!! • Splitting in two the contract is twice the work for the definition documents. This was not foreseen at the beginning. We are asking 8 MM more to support the documents preparation • 230kEuros received for the ancillaries • At present ~ 1 MM @ LAL
