  3. Pros • Better distribution of work force • More competitive in the global economy • Other countries have already utilized point systems • Benefits working immigrants rather than their employers

  4. Cons • Takes away from family unification • Social engineering • The system is not flexible • Other countries have encountered problems when using the point system

  5. Outcome • It did not pass • Too many amendments filed • Too drastic of a change • Senators voted to not end the debate (so the issue was postponed)
