  2. Materials • K-Nex • Wooden Spindels • Fan blade • Dixie Cups • 30 gauge Copper Wire • Screws • PVC Pipe • Rare Earth Magnets • HotGlue • American Flag

  3. Design • Fan blade connected to K’Nex shaft and gear system • Rare earth magnets enclosed in a coil of 30 gauge copper wire • Dixie Cup support system • Wooden stand holding generator

Calculations • v = Velocity of wind = 15 mph = 6.7m/s • ρ= Density of air = 1.204 kg/m3 • A = Area of fan blades = π*(.203m)2= .1297 m2 • PTheoretical= 1/2ρAv3 = 23.48 Watts • V = Voltage = 2.8 Volts • I = Current = .118 Amps • PActual= I*V = .3304 Watts • η = PActual/PTheoretical * 100 = 1.4%

  5. Mechanical/Electrical Aspects • Use wind to in turn create electricity • Use of magnets to create current • Copper coil • Gears to increase efficency • Strong magnets

  6. Construction Issues • Wrong gauge wire • Support system • Blades • Vibration (magnets )

  7. Conclusion • Happy with end results • Gear system dominates • Bigger blade greater surface area • Capable of sufficiently illuminating lightbulb!
