    2. BSN ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Direct Admit Freshmen High school GPA 3.75 or better ACT composite 26 Pre-Nursing Majors Minimum overall college GPA of 3.0 Minimum GPA of 3.0 for pre-requisite courses

CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION Grade Point Average Counts 70% of the admissions evaluation Consider GPA in prerequisite courses Must have average 3.0 GPA in prerequisite courses Preference given to students who have completed or are enrolled in pre-requisites at time of admission Interview Invited for interview if meet minimum overall GPA and competitive with other applicants Counts 30% of admissions evaluation

    4. PREREQUISITES School of Nursing website – Click on Future Students, then BSN CHEM 111/112 BIOL 102/104 NBAN 107 NSG 100 PSYC 101 SOCA 101 OR 105 ENGL 101 MATH 126 Can transfer in these courses from any accredited college or university. Both semesters of A&P must be taken at same school.

    5. INTERVIEW Interpersonal and communication skills Professionalism and presentation of self Reasons for choosing nursing Long-term goals Adaptability Healthcare experience Community service experience

    6. HOW TO BE COMPETITIVE GPA is most important criteria Overall GPA qualifies for admission, but prerequisite course GPA is used to rank applicants Average GPA is 3.6 Do accept applicants with lower GPA’s Interview important Must complete pre-requisite courses by enrollment date Must earn a C or better in all pre-requisites, with 3.0 average for all pre-requisites combined Must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average overall and in pre-requisites, even after admission

    7. TIMELINE Apply between December 1 and January 15 If meet minimum GPA criteria and competitive with other applicants, invited for interview Interviews held in late February/early March 2 possible admission dates: Fall 2012 Preference given to applicants who will have completed prerequisites by end of Spring 2012 Spring 2013

    8. ADMISSIONS DECISIONS Admitted – Fall or Spring Alternate list – Fall or Spring Rejected Can apply again next year if not admitted Can apply to regional campuses: WVU Tech in Montgomery Glenville State College (complete Jr./Sr. years at Tech)

    9. CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK To do clinical rotations in hospital and to apply for licensure, must have criminal background check Contact State Board for more information if history of: Serious misdemeanors or felonies Includes DUI and underage drinking convictions State Board -- 304.558.3596 or rnboard@state.wv.us
