Mentoring: A Review Focus on start-ups and scale-ups Matching Facility Required Database for life sciences; SME mentees linked up with suitable mentors Supporting service through mentoring experience Website facility Supported Training of Mentors Workshops to develop and train mentors On call support for mentors Builds on existing Mentoring schemes, e.g. BIS Mentorsme and NESTA Aim to increase uptake and engagement in skills training, particularly SMEs and supply chains Aim to support new business growth and longevity

Placements: A Review • Support for a not-for-profit placements service • Engage Industry, Higher Education & Trainees • Devise routes to increase SME & CRO placement provision • Ensure quality • Offer pre-placement training to trainees and HE/Industry participants • Offer employers an incentive, such as R&D Tax Credits or a National Insurance Holiday • Offer participants a fixed tuition fee & student loan interest freeze • Showcase benefits & good working practice • New Ways of Working • Coordinate sector wide collaboration • Explore international placements through ERASMUS, EMTRAIN, UKTI & British Council • Consider mentoring to support all parties • Raise Profile & Reward Activity • Increase numbers of industrial placements • Champion & enhance existing programmes & support packages • Recognise & reward good working practice
