Water Levels Co-operative effort with MVC MLA volunteers provide weekly rainfall data to MVC MVC provides water level data to MLA Graph updated weekly on MLA Website includes year to date levels, historical average levels and target range useful to determine whether water level changes may affect docks and boat lifts Water levels higher than normal for this time of year Mississippi Lakes Association Mississippi Lakes Association 19

Marker BuoysEd Carew • Water levels too high to install Marker Buoys • The Miss L.A. pontoon boat underwent significant repairs last fall. • Marker buoy locations shown on Website, Newsletter Maps, and laminated maps (for sale @ $5.00 per map) • The 10 bright orange marker buoys, donated by Canadian Tire Carleton Place, were well received. • Thank you to Knowlton Place Road Association for donation of one additional marker buoy. • Status of FOCA Private marker buoys Mississippi Lakes Association Mississippi Lakes Association 21

Water Quality Sampling Program 2002 - MVC sampled Mississippi Lake (Watershed Watch Program–5 year cycle) 2006 - Initiated an Annual Sampling Program in partnership with MVC Followed the Watershed Watch Protocol 2007 - Lake Partner Program Sampling & Watershed Watch (MVC re-sampled) Although results are encouraging, MLA decided to expand on the program Mississippi Lakes Association 23

  24. 2010 Water Quality Sampling Partnership with MVC (supplied equipment & covered cost of lab samples again) Lake was sampled 3 times Re-sampled with MOE Lake Partner Program & OFAH Invasive Species Monitoring Program Re-sampled 2 additional sites for phosphorus including inlet and outlet Residents need to practice stewardship 2011 – Resample 2 main sites, including inlet and outlet, in partnership with MVC 2012 – MVC will resample Watershed Watch, Invasives, Algae & Seine netting Programs Mississippi Lakes Association 24

High-Speed Internet Access • Storm Internet covers Carleton Place, Beckwith and all of the lake area • Bell Canada offers DSL (only in certain areas near C.P., Perth) and high-speed Internet using their TurboStick™ or Turbohub™ pretty well everywhere • Rogers offers their Rocket™ Mobile Internet Stick in most loactions across Canada • Horizon Technologies offer service to most of the Lake • Our website lists contact numbers & website addresses Mississippi Lakes Association

Weed Cutter – Peter Elliott • History • During 1960s used a flat bed barge propelled with paddle wheels • Later used the “iron tank cutter” which almost sank in the 1990s • MLA later traded the “Iron Tank” for a 4’, 12 volt cutter from John’s Marina • Previous rental: • MLA members rented unit, one day free. $50.00 each additional day • For Sale: • MLA wants to sell due to lack of use • 8’ shaft, 12 V. motor; 4’ cutter Cost New - $3,000.00 • Sell - $1,500.00 OBO, call Peter at 257-5362 Mississippi Lakes Association 34

Status and Plan for 2011 Budget approved for 2011 ($30,250) 93% take up by Road Associations in 2010, viewed as excellent Cheques issued for a total of $28,057 for 2010 No application was turned down Township staff worked with some associations on applications Improved application forms available since last September Township really impressed with quality of applications All Stars (again) – Dowdall & Rathwell Shores, Lakeside Dr. Associations should acknowledge grants by email/letter PREP appears to be well established in Beckwith Keep pressuring to raise grant levels Mississippi Lakes Association
