  4. Compound sentences- 2 or more sentences combined He missed the bus, so he walked home. • A compound sentence has 2 sentences joined together with a comma and a coordinating conjunction.

  5. Coordinating Conjunctions: FANBOYS • For- The Problem Finder • And- The Matchmaker • Nor- Mr. Negative • But- King Conflict • Or- The Decision-Maker • Yet- But’s Evil Twin Brother • So- The Problem Solver

  6. Semicolon • Compound sentences may also be combined by connecting the 2 sentences together with a semicolon. He missed the bus ; he walked home.

  7. Practice • Which sentences are simple and which are compound? • 1. Dad and Mom discussed our travel plans. • 2. Mom chose Chicago, and I measured the distance. • 3. Larry and Dad considered some interesting places in South Carolina and Mississippi. • 4. Mom read about these states in my tour book, but we couldn’t make a decision. • 5. After studying the map for over an hour, we finally made a decision.
