  2. Clinical Credentialing: Credentialing is comprised of 3 components: Credentialing site Credentialing student Credentialing preceptor Credentialing is in place for the protection of the student, practitioners,clinical site, & University.

  3. Who’s Who is the Credentialing Process:Clinical Site Facilitator Jamie Wheeler • Helps students navigate the clinical search process • Troubleshoots difficult situations • Assists with cover letters & resumes

  5. Regional Clinical Faculty (RCF) Case Day in KY Chaundel Presley, RCF • Advisor during clinicals • Approves each site and preceptor • Completes Pre-Clinical Site Visit (PCSV) & Site Visit

  7. Credentialing Student • Certifications • Licensure • Background Check • Immunizations • TB Skin Test • Titers • These items will be uploaded into Typhon approximately 3mo prior to Clinical Bound

  8. Credentialing Preceptor • License & Certification • Official Transcript (MSN) • Verification- 1 year employment in advanced practice role • Signed Preceptor Agreement

  9. Credentialing Site Madison Birth Center • Affiliation Agreement (contract) between site & FNU • Certificate of professional liability insurance (COI) • Pre-Clinical Site Visit (PCSV) by RCF

  10. Who can be a preceptor: • Advanced Practice Nurse- Masters or Higher • CNM- Advanced Practice Nurse with Post Bachelor’s Degree • Only CFNP & CWHNP can use MD & DO- 20% of clinical time • Cannot use CPM, PA, or CNS

  11. A few tips on finding a preceptor: Drop by the office and leave your CV and letter. Chocolates or another small token of appreciation can also go a long way. Follow up on calls and letters. Be professional in your dress, speech, and presentation. Don’t forget that your voicemail should also be professional! Be sure potential preceptors know what you will bring to them: CEU’s, honorarium, the latest information and guidelines. If all else fails, cast a broader net. Be willing to drive.   12. Where to Find Preceptors: • Personal contacts (network, network, network!) • Professional organizations and BON • RCF

Preceptor Responsibilities: • Preceptor must complete a Preceptor Packet, which will come from Credentialing. • Each site will receive a Primary Preceptor Packet for 1 preceptor. • Additional preceptors will receive the Secondary Packet. • Preceptors supervise and evaluate the student during the clinical practicum. • Primary Preceptors sign the Declaration of Safety.

  14. Benefits of Precepting: Frontier, unlike most universities, offers many perks for preceptors. These include: • $2000 for FNP/WHNP and $2500 for CNEP honorarium divided among preceptors based on the time they spend with student • Can use precepting hours for recertification • Free Gift of Precepting Course for 3 CEU credits- link found in preceptor packet • 10% discount on individual courses taken at FNU, within 3 years of precepting

  15. Where Can I Do Clinicals: • Can work in clinics, hospitals, CABC accredited birth centers, and FNU approved home birth practices. • FNP & WHNP students may have up to 3 clinical sites. • CNEP students may have up to 4 clinical sites. • Sites are defined by physical location & experiences.

  16. Doing Clinicals Outside of Home State: Credentialing Coordinators & RCFs are assigned by state. However, if you are going to be practicing outside of your home state for all or part of your clinical practicum, please contact the Credentialing Department & RCF for instructions. Students must have an active RN license in any state they plan to do clinicals. Military and Indian Health Service (IHS) sites accept a current RN license from any US state.

  17. Intro to Typhon: • http://www.typhongroup.net/frontier/ • Select the Data Entry Log In • Typhon is our clinical management and case management software. • The temporary log in is “Clinics” and the password is “Lookup1”. • Directories can be searched by preceptor, site, or location.

What does it take to finish: • The FNU minimum clinical experience for MSN students is 675 clinical hours and sixteen (16) weeks of clinical. • The FNU minimum clinical experience for post-master’s students is 540 clinical hours with a successful challenge of three (3) clinical credits and sixteen (16) weeks of clinical. These minimum clinical requirements apply to all specialty tracks. • Clinical experiences as outlined in the Catalog • Signed Declaration of Safety by Primary Preceptor

  19. Signature Line: • Put the following information in your e-mail signature line to help faculty & staff answer your questions in a more timely manner: • Name, Program Track, Class #, State • Telephone number and time zone • Advisor’s Name • RCF Name • Projected Clinical Bound Term
