    3. OPENING PRAYER Let us stand and pray: God of hope and forgiveness, we are all in need of your healing. We ask you to make us open to change of heart, to a conversion, so that we may be an example to our children as they prepare to receive your grace in the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Take these stony hearts of ours and transform them by your love and forgiveness into hearts overflowing with love for you and for your people. We ask this humbly in the name of your Son Jesus. AMEN.

    4. What does the Eucharist mean? What does it mean for you to receive the Body and Blood of Christ each Sunday? What do you hope for your child when he or she receives Jesus Christ in the Eucharist for the first time?

    5. What do the Sacraments mean for us? Through the Sacraments God’s invisible graces, that are always present and always being offered, are made visible in a special time, a special place and a special way. Our celebration of the Sacraments is both our reception of this gift from God and our response to God’s invitation to enter into relationship with God.

    6. Before preparing to receive Jesus Christ in the Eucharist… Your child will examine their relationship with Jesus…. Confess their sins…. Seek God’s forgiveness, receive absolution… And reconcile with God and others through contrition.
