Info !!!*** • Komodo dragons have lived in the harsh climate of Indonesia's Lesser Sunda Islands for millions of years, although amazingly, their existence was unknown to humans until about 100 years ago. • They can grow to be 10 feet (3 meters) in length and more than 300 pounds. • Komodo dragons are the heaviest lizards on Earth.

  3. ***Classifications*** • Kingdom: Animilia • Phylum: Chordata • Class: Reptilia • Order: Squamata • Suborder: Varanidae • Species: Varanus(monitor lizard) komodoensis (belonging to Komodo)

  4. Habitats • Komodo Dragons Mainly live in forest and savanna, but also mangrove swamps, open beach, steppe, and thickets. • The average annual temperature at sea level on Komodo island is 80F. degrees. Dragons are most abundant in the lower arid forest and savanna.

  5. !!!Fun Facts!!! • Komodo dragons are found on only four islands in Indonesia with a total area approximately the size of Rhode Island. • After hatching, the young immediately climb trees to avoid being eaten by their cannibalistic elders. • Komodos are opportunistic carnivores whose saliva contains several strains of virulent bacteria which in turn causes severe infection that can lead to blood poisoning and death in 1-5 days.
