  3. What is Communication? • Merriam-Webster defines communication as an act or instance of transmitting information • Web 2.0 tools can enhance communication amongst teachers & students or colleague to colleague

  4. Video Conferencing Skype is a video conferencing tool. Users can place free phone calls to other Skype users or hold video chats www.skype.com • Use with Students: • Skype an author • Skype with another classroom • Allow younger students to watch older students conduct an experiment without leaving the classroom (or cleaning up) • Skype in a family member while they are at work to learn about their job or have them read a book to your class • After hours homework help

  8. Scheduling Doodle is an online scheduling tool where you can create an event with dates and times you are available. You invite others to view your calendar and check off times they too are available.   9. File Sharing Dropbox is a file saving and file sharing site. It involves a download to your computer to run. Once you upload a file to Dropbox it is available anywhere you have an Internet connection and is not tied to the computer you are working on http://www.dropbox.com Use with Students: • Many teachers share files with students or ask students to turn in assignments through Dropbox http://sendtodropbox.com Send email attachments to your Dropbox

  10. Backchannel Today’s Meet is a backchannel tool. A backchannel is basically everything that is going on during a presentation that doesn't’t involve the presenter! Sometimes people will have someone moderate the backchannel during the presentation, sometimes presenters will have it open for feedback. Here is an example: http://todaysmeet.com

  12. Curation Scoop.it is an online magazine-style curation site. It allows you to collect sites with a common theme and have them all displayed similar to a magazine. A bookmarklet can be installed so you can add content as you find it, or you can use Scoop. It’s suggested sites based on keywords you input http://www.scoop.it Use with Students: • Create research guides for students • Have students create their own research guides • Share resources with colleagues
