  3. Introduction There are lots of owls in Britain. They are hunters who mostly come out at night or at dusk and dawn. This book is about the unusual sorts of British owls. Long-eared owl baby tawny owl

  4. Little Owl There have been little owls in Britain for about 200 years. Unlike other owls they come out during the day. You can see them on the top of telegraph poles or trees. If you frighten a little owl it bobs its head up and down.

  5. Long-eared Owl The long-eared owl is smaller than a wood pigeon. It is secretive and nocturnal so they aren’t seen very often.

  6. Short-eared Owl These are medium-sized with speckled brown bodies, pale wings and yellow eyes. You see them mostly on the coast and in winter.
