  1. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY WC 18th September 2018 WELCOME BACK

  2. Welcome Back! We hope you have all had a relaxing holiday and are ready to come back to school for the year! Thought for the Day will continue to be a weekly source of information and reflection to allow you the time to think about some of the issues in our everyday lives. This week we will be looking at some of our school rules and expectations. Punctuality Students must understand the importance of good timekeeping, as it underpins every aspect of our lives. Be aware that: Students should be in school for 8.40 am. They will be marked late if they are not sitting in Form at 8.45am Walking into Form after the bell means they are late. 2 lates in a week will be recorded on SIMS and in planner as well as a FT detention. 4 lates in a week will result in Punctuality report card and letter home 5 or more lates will result in 1 hour detention/s with PdM/APdM, and further parental contact Significant lates will result in one hour detentions each time a student is late DETENTIONS Will be completed in M4 with Mrs Armer and will run every week day. Teachers will escort you from period 5. Reflection sheets will be completed during your detention to enable follow up conversations to be had with the teacher who issued the detention. Your name will feature in red on teacher registers and normal detention lists will be on display outside PDM offices. REWARDS Students should aim to receive as many of these as possible. The rewards system will praise good punctuality and attendance, along with recognising good effort and behaviour in Progress Assessments. Don’t forget to aim for a GOLDEN TICKET!!!!

  5. MOBILE PHONES • Mobile phones should not be seen, heard or used between 8.40 and 3.15. • Research is now proving that this is the best approach to protect the mental health and wellbeing of young people and to improve grades. • They may be confiscated if seen and students will collect them from Student Reception at the end of the day.

  6. How you should present your work Why is presentation important? What impression does this give to other?

  7. Each week TFTD will look at a recent news article which effects you as students and members of society. If you have any suggestions or read any relevant or interesting articles, please speak to Mrs Richards to get them included. Reality TV branded harmful to mental health Channel 4's new gameshow The Circle has been branded a 'low point' for reality TV because it will pick a winner based on how many likes they get on social media. The reality television programme, sees contestants housed in one apartment block but living separately in individual apartments, where they will only be able to communicate by talking to a social media device called The Circle. The contestants will be able to rate each other based on everything they put into The Circle; with those with the least likes being 'blocked' and kicked out while the winner with the most likes will take home £50,000. However, mental health campaigners say rewarding people for their fake online personas shouldn't be celebrated with a cash jackpot. They say it is a ‘new low for reality television’ and have branded the stunt as harmful to mental health. The show has been accused of ‘glamorising’ the unpleasant side of social media in which users will do anything to get lots of likes or followers, no matter how self-destructive their behaviour is. Do you think fake profiles can be dangerous? Why could ‘likes’ affect mental health?
