Summary He promised Bess that he would come back by moonlight The highwayman went to find Bess Tim saw and heard this Tim went to tell the redcoat troop A redcoat troop came and bound Bess to catch the highwayman He went back and was shot by the redcoat troop Tim went to tell the highwayman the death of Bess The highwayman came back and Bess shot herself, warned him with her death The highwayman ran away but did not know the death of Bess

Down the ribbon of moonlight, over the brow of the hill, The highwayman came riding, Riding, riding! The red-coats looked to their priming! She stood up strait and still!

  6. Our Favorite Part in The Poem VII • Tlot-tlot, in the frosty silence! Tlot-tlot, in the echoing night! Nearer he came and nearer! Her face was like a light! Her eyes grew wide for a moment; she drew one last deep breath, Then her finger moved in the moonlight, Her musket shattered the moonlight, Shattered her breast in the moonlight and warned him- with her death.
