  3. Your Grade: Value 9 Lab Reports 40% EA102: Construction Materials ACI Assignment 10% 2 Tests 50%

  4. To be eligible to participate in lab work you must print the “Declaration of Laboratory Readiness” Lab Participation This document can be printed from the professor’s website homepage. EA102: Construction Materials You must complete and present this document to Irene before the first lab session in order to be permitted to participate.

  5. Remember...Absent means 0 for the lab! On arrival, sign in! (your name only) Lab Attendance 10 minutes grace, then LATE blank signature spaces highlighted highlighted signatures: LATE EA102: Construction Materials blank highlighted spaces: ABSENT

  6. In Lab Orientation this week you will be forming lab groups. Lab Groups Each class must have 8 Lab Groups: up to 5 persons/group depending on class size. EA102: Construction Materials Ideally, we’d like an equal number of students in each group so we may make some changes. Avoid: a) more than one physically-challenged person per group b) ride-sharers in the same group The groups, once set up, will not be changed.

  7. Be careful when joining a group or allowing someone to be a part of your group. Lab Groups The ideal size of a group is 3 members. Most will have 4 and some 5 group members. EA102: Construction Materials Many groups end up at each others throats because one or more members are unwilling to participate. We are not referees! You have to sort these things out yourselves.

  8. In order to get a mark for the lab EVERY student must submit a report. Lab Reports Every group member should record the data on their OWN data sheet, perform the calculations and prepare a report. EA102: Construction Materials Moaning to us that Sally or Sammy has the data but hasn’t been seen for 4 days will only draw uproarious laughter from us.

  9. Lab reports (as described in “Policies and Procedures”) generally consist of: Lab Reports 1. Title Page 2. Report Summary Forms EA102: Construction Materials 3. Graphs 4. Data Sheets 5. Sample Calculations

  10. Clothes are not optional! Labwear If you have coveralls, wear ‘em! Minimize exposed skin: no shorts, kilts skirts, pedal-pushers/capris EA102: Construction Materials No high heels or open toed shoes. Its not a fashion parade...don’t wear your new black pants, angora sweater or $250 runners! Its a dirty place!

  11. The do’s and don’ts are described in “Policies and Procedures”, but some important things to emphasize: Lab Behaviour 1. Don’t bring your “toys” into the lab...no you cannot listen to music using your ipods, etc. in the lab!We want your head to be in the lab and not at the opera! 2. Horseplay is dealt with very harshly... 3. Don’t be in a big hurry to leave the lab...cleanup is NOT OPTIONAL!!! EA102: Construction Materials

  12. A clipboard is ideal to hold your lab instructions and datasheets. Materials 4 Materials Don’t bring bulging binders into the lab. All the course materials you need are on my website ... print off and read the instructions and datasheets before coming to the lab. EA102: Construction Materials It would be nice if all group members read the instructions for each lab before coming to the lab, so your all on the same page....

  13. Materials 4 Materials “The Design and Control of Concrete Mixtures” is the required text book. Students have come back to us after leaving Mohawk and claim they still refer to it quite often.... EA102: Construction Materials
