DEATH • George Washington died December 14, 1799 • He was age 67 • His last words were Tis Well • Martha Washington burned the correspondence between her husband and herself following his death • Only a total of five letters between the couple are known to have survived • On December 18 1799 a funeral was held at Mount Vernon • Washington
