  6. Institute of Economics and Management Our Institute was founded in 1993. It was established as the International Ecological-and-Technological College. The first group of students finished it in 1997. The same year at the suggestion of the Ministry of Education and Science of Estonia the college was renamed into the Institute of Economics and Management (ECOMEN). Renaming, certainly, meant a recognition of the quality of the educational process in the college, its conformity to higher education requirements.

  10. Rector of the Institute of Economics and Management Hanon Barabaner has been the permanent Rector of the Institute since1993. Scientific degrees and ranks: 1973 г. – Doctor of Science, Economics, professor, 1997 г. – professor of the International Academy of Tourism, 2002 г. – active member of the International Academy of Biospheric Sciences, 2009 г. – corresponding member of the International Higher Education Academy, a member of the Round table of national minorities at the President of Estonia, the deputy Chairman of Russian Academic society of Estonia, honourable doctor of Saint Petersburg State University of Engineering and Economics (ENGECON) , honourable professor of Ural State University of Economics, honourable professor of Kazakh Scientific Research Institute.

Institute of Economics and Management ECOMEN is: • Applied higher education. • Full accreditation of all curriculums. • The only higher educational establishment in the EU conducting training only in Russian. • Flexible modes of study and formations of curricula on the basis of a modular system. • The innovative approach to formation of the educational process. • Participation in programs on students exchange and teachers in cooperation with 40 universities in different countries. • The international certificate of the System of Quality Management according to ISO 9001:2008 standard.

  12. The Institute conducts training on the following specialities:

  13. Staff Now more than 60 lecturers work in the Institute. It is one of the strongest in Estonia groups of experts in the field of Economics and Management most of whom have scientific degrees. They are experts in the field of Economics and Management, whose names are well-known not only in scientific circles, but also to experts both in Estonia and abroad. More than 25 % of them are young experts.

Department of Industrial Management In 2009 the Institute of Economics and Management(ЕCOMEN) in cooperation with SaintPetersburg State University of Engineering and Economics (ENGECON) and one of the biggestemployers in the Baltic region – BLRTGrupp have signed the contract on establishing of the Department of Industrial Management, which is engaged in training of young experts in the field of mechanical engineering, shipbuilding and assemblage of largesteel constructions.

Department of Industrial Management Specialized educational process provides theoretical and practical training on the basis of AS BLRT Grupp in the form of lecture courses, trainings, business games, case study, educational research works, course and degree projects on highly specialized subjects of AS BLRT Grupp, and also direct involving of students in the industrial process for the purpose of fastening the obtained knowledge in practice.

  17. Department of Economics andManagement The Department of Economics and Management of the ECOMEN carries out training of specialists majoring in Business Economics and Business Management. The Department’s objectives: 1. Concerning students - to meet their interests in obtaining quality education corresponding to the European standards of vocational training. It will allow graduates to compete successfully in the labour market and to find worthy application of their knowledge and skills. 2. Concerning lecturers – to provide a creative atmosphere of the conditions necessary for work and use of the staff‘s potential. Bystrova Jelena

Department of General Subjects The Department is an educational, methodical and scientific division of the Institute of Economics and Management and submits directly to the Rector of the Institute. The Department’s objectives: to develop ability to use, transfer, analyze and receive information; to teach to use the basic mathematical apparatus and the corresponding software for processing the information of economic and administrative character; to give an idea about the features of the legal regulations of some kinds of activity both on the territory of Estonia, and the European Union as a whole; to help students with an estimation of their own psychological traits promoting the professional activity, in stimulation of personal growth.   19. Department of Foreign Languages Mission of the Department: to provide the graduates with good knowledge and practical skills of foreign (English, German, Italian) and state languages as good command of them is an integral part of the general and professional culture of an expert. Jelena Laur

Pre-higher education training The Institute has a department of pre-higher training for high school pupils who have a great possibility to study part-time in the Institute and according to their choice to obtain the profession demanded on the labour market: Tourism manager, IT expert, manager assistant, real estate broker, Logistics manager, Sales manager, bank official and many others.

  21. Students Annually we have about 300 new people wishing to study in our Institute, and every year this number is increasing. Currently we have more than one thousand full- and part-time students in our Institute. Student council of ECOMEN is a representation body chosen by the students of the Institute. Student council of ECOMEN was established in November, 16th, 1995 and traditionally consists of 12 students. Elections of Student council take place annually in November. Student council’s mission consists in development of additional possibilities for the students in spheres of education and culture, and also support in their everyday life.

  22. A modern higher educational institution is not only a possibility to obtain special knowledge and skills raising competitiveness of the worker in the labour market, but also traditions.   23. ECOMEN-START COMPETITIONS Since 2009 autumn team games under the general name "ECOMEN-start" have become traditional. Sports traditions in our Institute have been existing for many years, and ECOMEN students and graduates were even participants of Estonian Olympic teams.

Students’ Scientific Society According to the ECOMEN strategy of development for 2008-2015, developed by the Institute Management and which received a positive estimation by the International accreditation commission, student research work is one of the directions of activation of educational process. Proceeding from the declared mission and the state approaches in the field of higher education, the main objective of the Student Learned Body activity is development at students of economic thinking meeting modern and perspective requirements of the labour market and their attraction to research work.

  25. Graduates The diploma of our Institute is more than a 90 percent guarantee of employment, and more than 75 percent of our graduates find a job according to their qualification, including the EU countries. At present the Institute has more than 1300 graduates who work in 32 countries of the world: Australia, Brazil, Great Britain, Germany, Denmark, Israel, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Russia, the USA, Thailand, Turkey, Finland, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Estonia and others.

  26. Association of graduates The strengthening of relations with graduates has always been one of the priorities of the Institute. In 2007 the Association of Graduates of ECOMEN was established. The Association not only unites hundreds of ECOMEN graduates, who obtained in its walls the necessary knowledge and skills, but also helps today's students with internship and job search.

  27. INTEGRATIO Centre Besides education the Institute is engaged in public and social activity. In 1999 the Center of culture, integration and social adaptation INTEGRATIO was founded. The goals of the Center’s activity are to contribute to integration of the Estonian society, to carry out general educational and cultural events for rapprochement of Estonian and Russian-speaking population, and also to preserve and develop Russian culture.

  28. Open university of legal and social and economic knowledge The joint project of the Institute of Economics and Management ECOMEN and the centre of culture, integration and social adaptation INTEGRATIO. The goal of the project is to increase public activity and to involve into a civil society people of the target groups. The project is supported by the Tallinn Town council. Target groups of training: Russian-speaking jobless and nonworking people; Nonworking youth(schoolchildren and students) - 16-25 years old; Jobless people of working age - 20-60 years old; Nonworking people older than 55 years old.

Open university of legal and social and economic knowledge - insufficient awareness of target groups on various possibilities, achievements and changes in economic, social and legal spheres of the state; - inactive participation in a city and country life; - insufficient use of possibilities and the rights given by the state and municipal systems.   30. Collected works of the Institute of Economics and Management In 2003 the Institute began active publishing of annual Collected works of the Institute and textbooks under the heading «Library of the Institute of Economics and Management».

  31. Partner relations Nowadays the lecturers of the Institute can improve their qualification in more than 40 universities - partners from 12 countries with which corresponding cooperation agreements have been signed.
