  1. Chapter 3 Section 3 notes “Early Civilization of China” • 1. China is located in Asia. • 2. Most people live along the east coast or in river valleys. • 3. China is isolated because it is surrounded by mountains, jungles, desert and ocean. • 4. Chinese civilization rose around the Huang He and Yangzi river. around 1650 B.C. • 5. Around 1650 B.C. the Shang people gained control of Northern China. • 6. During the Shang dynasty the kings ruled small amounts of land.

Most were peasants living in farming villages. • 10. In 1027 B.C. The Zhou people overthrew the Shang. • 11. Zhou dynasty created the “Mandate of Heaven”. Which is the Divine right to rule. • 12. Both Shang and Zhou dynasties developed a complex religion. • 13. They both created a system of writing and made the first books. • 14. they both Made silk thread from cocoons of silkworms.
